Lo4: Be able to record, edit and review sound elements

Recording sound

In my first attempt to record sound I cut up the sound using the razor tool so than only my characters lines were included.
I then did a quick export of my sound

I uploaded the new sound I recorder on my phone to one drive to edit on my laptop using DaVinci Resolve

I cut up all my sound into usable sound clips by using the razor tool, I rerecorded and added in some sound that was corrupted by blowing into the mic i.e. the whistling of a song

I organized my dialog sound into different rows so that it was easier to keep track of and isolate the sound I wanted to edit by using the lock and mute tools

I added in the bird sound and walking sound I recorded and placed it based on the markers I added to show myself where I wanted my sound to start and finish

Feedback for sound

Sound unit     - google form -

I added in the sound of leaves moving that I recorded

I added in the buzzing bee sound effects I recorded

I increased the semi tone bar to 5 on selected dialog clips to make my character Tansy's voice more high pitch

Google Form feedback

Due to this feedback I have been assured by the majority of my listeners that the sound in my product fits the adventure genre.

Due to this feedback I have been told my listeners enjoy the natural sound and singing in my product the most.

Due to this feedback I am going to: look at some of the sound levels of my sound effects compared to my dialog, so that the listener can easily hear them.

Due to this feedback I have been told the sound in my product is relaxing and fun to sing along to.

Evaluating feedback (feasibility) I'm proving trailer based on feedback

Based on my feedback one of the most common thing said were altering sound levels so that sound effects could be heard over the dialog as it is clear that the audience were struggling to hear some parts of my sound. This is feasible because all I have to do is use the sound window in DaVinci resolve in order to adjust the volume of the sound. Another piece of feedback I received was to add more atmospheric sound e.g., bush movement, I will do this myself by recoding different objects, this is also known as foley, in my garden such as moving bushed, I will use Davinci to layer the sound together so that they can all play at the same time and be heard by the audience, without overpowering each other. This is so it can suit the conventions of the adventure genre as the audience felt that it needed more sound adding to it to enhance the product overall. One positive piece of feedback I have received is I have been told my listeners enjoy the natural sound and singing in my product the most however they felt in areas that they wanted the humming to continue, I will do this by extending the sound in the software I am using to do this.

Changes

I increased the volume of my walking, bush movement noise,  sound using the white bars as it was too quiet in comparison to my other sounds, this helped to keep the atmospheric sound in my product cohesive. I believe I have achieved creating a whimsical theme in my sound effects as I have combined atmospheric sound with sound effects to make the unnatural sounds seem like they are sounds produced by the mythical character naturally, for example the jingling sound combined with the stepping sound of the character.

The sound I have created meets the brief in terms of audience interaction and satisfaction, as in the feedback I received from my target audience they commented that they were entertained and engaged with the sound via singing or humming along with the character and relaxing when listening to the natural sound I have included such as birds singing. I created the singing/humming by recording my voice actor Sally B on a mobile phone with a voice recorder app while she followed the original script I created I formatted the song like a poem with a repeated line 'over the hills and the mounds' and we worked to improvise the melody so that it was catch and stuck in the viewer head after listening to the product.

I enhanced the sound by making changes such as changing some of the sound levels of my sound effects, comparing the sound levels to my dialog, so that the listener can easily hear quieter atmospheric sound. Altering the pitch of my dialog helped allot to make the voice more characterful and whimsical as it is more unrealistic I did this because the character the voice is portraying is mythical and an inhuman voice helps to convey this. Over all this made my product better as it made the product more immersive and fun to listen to so that it engaged the audience better.

My sound meets the brief in terms of purpose, as my sound was able to make my product feel more immersive due to realistic atmospheric sounds. I was able to depict my theme of fantasy in my sound as I have added in sound effects that I feel go with the pixie, fairytale theme of my production, my sound helped me to add personality to my characters. I was able to add sound that follows adventure genre conventions such as over dramatic sounds of movement.
